Shatavari root is rich in steroidal saponins called shatavarins. The plant name — literally 'she who possesses a hundred husbands' — hints at its historical positioning in Ayurveda. Modern evidence is early but consistent with its traditional role.

Primary rasayana for strī rasāyana — monthly rhythm, lactation, and general reproductive tonification.
